Pros

Seasonal work, starting in November, part-time for training and then full-time from Jan to the end of tax season. Flexible working hours. Salaried position.

Cons

Micromanaging every aspect. No autonomy to manage. Metrics for raises are not fully disclosed until after the season and upon rehire for the new season. The goalpost is moved to whatever metric minimizes the new raise—poor retention of prior-year staff.

Pros

Extremely flexible hours. Willing to work with you based on your scheduling needs. Many of the employees here (myself included) have other jobs and work at H&R Block part-time during tax season as extra income. Very unique experience and glad that I did it.

Cons

The customers. Get ready to deal with a lot of ungrateful people. Many are the type that you'll feel bad for when they don't get much back in taxes or owe money and you have to charge them money for your services. But I'd say more than half are the other variety where they get back more money than they made the entire year and they still complain that it isn't enough and expect you the tax associate to work some magic to get them more.
