Nightmare

Pros

Different locations to work from, free parking, co-worker friendships, good insurance companies, nice clients, no micromanaging, fun annual holiday party.

Cons

Clueless, unprofessional leadership. Leaders do not know how to lead, they don't know what they're doing. Poor staffing for the insane workload. Low morale due to constant increases in work without salary increases & more help. Terrible bonuses. Too much favoritism.

Decentralized brokerage. Toxic culture in parts.

Pros

If you work in a field office on the front line or backoffice, what you'll find is dependent on what the culture of the office was before they were acquired. Regions are silos. Some very talented people.

Cons

The marketing and communications team has a toxic environment with bullying. There is little to no consistency or project management. The top dogs mean well, but nothing has been done about the bully. If you want to work for corporate and in that team, ask the person in the interview if they are happy there, about process, if someone is doing the job regionally - and what their turnover rates are like. What would people who held the position previously be likely to say about why they left?

IT at Hub International

Pros

Company with great IT potential if managed differently. I really enjoyed working there first couple of years. Life/work balance is decent. People are mostly ok.

Cons

Tendency of IT outsourcing. People working for 15 years stayed out of job because of someone's bright idea about questionable savings. Company is owned by a hedge fond which means profit is on the first place no matter what. Not much care about people. You can advance if a good friend, relative distant relative, and if you do brown nosing so hard it becomes grotesque. Salary grade is below market level and don't be surprised if you don't get yearly increase. Lots of politics involved as in majority of companies. For an insurance company employee benefits are ridiculous.
