Pros

The 25% off employee discount is nice. The job is a good place to learn and grow basic sales techniques.

Cons

Store prices can be pretty expensive. The shoe room can be tricky at times and get disorganized.

Awful Management

Pros

-staff members (some not all) -flexible hours -no real skills needed -contests to win free merchandise -easy and laid back job (sometimes)

Cons

Where do I begin with this awful establishment -low pay -if promoted to assistant management it's only a $1 per hour raise -only other raises are annually and the most you can get is 5% -management is awful and incompetent -my particular manager held grudges like a 13 year old girl -management will fire you for the petty reasons. Ex: having a visible tattoo (even though they knew about it when they hired you) -unless you suck up your hours will be few -work scheduling conflicts with school scheduling -only hours you will get will be on the weekends -you may get a max of 25 hours each schedule but your hours will be cut throughout the week so it's really only 15-20 per week -the manager "works" 48 hours per week but yet leaves at 2 pm almost every day. Hmmm I wonder how that's possible? -ALL managers are supposed to work 1 Sunday per month but yet my manager seemed to only work one Sunday every 3-4 months which meant I worked extra Sundays because he is lazy -Management is also very unorganized when scheduling so you will be forced to come in on your off days because the manager forgets to schedule the minimum amount of people for certain shifts -management will ask you for multiple favors but if you ask for a favor in return (I.e. a weekend day off on the next schedule) it will not be granted because the manager refuses to do favors unless you suck up to him -you will be asked to do numerous meaningless and time consuming tasks -store moves happen frequently here so you will stay after hours on weekends to move the product around -store meetings are pointless and honestly are just a way for the manager to tell you how you're not doing your job right -the manager will give you 1 on 1 interviews to review performance and to talk about anything (unless you want to talk about his performance, then he suddenly gets defensive) -employee friendships are "unprofessional" -even if you are a hard worker you are never rewarded for it if you are not sucking up to the boss -the DM and the LPM are both good friends with the manager so there is nowhere to go with a complaint even if it is fully legitimate -the store is constantly dirty -back room is severely overcrowded -only time you will get good hours is holidays -"low cost operator" which means if it is not absolutely necessary for the company to spend money on, they won't do it. -computers are severely outdated and crash constantly making it difficult to ring up customers It's safe to say that Hibbett is not for you if you live in my area. I worked there for almost 5 years and worked for 3 different managers. My last manager I only worked with for a year and honestly I was ready to quit after only 2 months of working with him. The company itself isn't bad and if you have a good manager the your time at Hibbett sports can be a good one but it's safe to say my manager sucked which made my experience awful. With him you are treated as property that can be fired as soon as he doesn't like you.
