Pros

I guess it gave me work history to put on my resume. There are a lot of companies who like to see previous hospitality work experience.

Cons

They do not take care of there employee's. I was there for over a year and did not get any benefits! I started out in May 2012 getting paid $7.47 and ended in August getting paid $7.69, terrible! Overall it was not a good experience, especially since I was there for over a year. I did not get any promotions and only a .22 cent pay increase total.

Pros

If the owners treat the property as a long term investment and are willing to fill the role of housekeeper or night auditor themselves if need be, it can be a decent place to work with actual career mobility.

Cons

Many owners are absentee landlords, leading to a culture of short term gains and borderline abusive management. It seems common of many GMs and owners to think less of the staff for being under their employ. The turnover rate is one of the highest in the service industry, with many franchises wanting to hire "zombie" employees with no individual desire to increase revenue, simply because of a desire to stay at minimum wage.

Pros

There is a lot of freedom during the day and you get to network quite a bit. There is a lot of satisfaction in providing guests with an excellent stay.

Cons

Owners can be difficult to deal with. They will sometimes ignore your supply requests in order to keep up the monthly P&L. Owners are by and large ignorant of the local market situation and do not understand market driven occupancy variations.
