Pros

- Clear, compelling mission to help small businesses around the world grow and control their own destiny - "Root for the underdog" mentality - Results-oriented environment where risk taking is encouraged and rewarded - Extremely strong peer group - Terrific customers whose lives we can meaningfully and visibly impact - Competitive compensation - Work/life flexibility (may depend on the role, but lots of work-from-home, remote, unconventional work patterns are often fine - unlimited vacation which generally seems to amount to a slightly generous normal vacation allowance)

Cons

- High growth means high pressure - Tendency to focus on where we are weak/failing which can be exhausting at times - Depending on the department your job can change meaningfully over the course of even a year (or faster) and it can be hard to get in a groove

+1 on the why--we are working on a big push here for the company meeting in December, so if you have specific thoughts or input there, send them my way, would love to hear them. I also agree sometimes we can focus too much on what we need to fix versus what we are doing well, so that's something we need to continue to keep an eye on as we grow. Thanks for helping build a product our customers love--I'm extremely grateful to have a product team so committed to solving for the customer on a regular basis. -Katie

Cons

This is my second time writing a review about HubSpot because I was coerced into removing my criticisms by a third party. Instead of contacting me about my concerns as a former employee, HubSpot decided to reach out to someone that is tangentially connected to this situation for feedback on an experience that he knows nearly nothing about. HubSpot epitomizes what is wrong with the world today and is a remarkable example of modern day discrimination, cultural insensitivity, institutionalized racism, implicit white bias and income inequality. Martin Luther King, Jr. once wrote that "most whites in America proceed from a premise that equality is a loose expression for improvement." I stand by my belief that HubSpot is not diverse in the faintest sense. After having to defend my initial ANONYMOUS post, I actually think that my original grade for effort on diversity of a C is too generous and an F is more appropriate. Their 2016 numbers speak or themselves, they're 85% white. I was uncomfortable being the only black individual in a new hire cohort of 50+ people. My manager triggered stereotype threat with her poor word choice in our one-on-one check-ins. She made culturally insensitive remarks and didn't care about how her management was disrupting my learning experience. I was progressively profiled and given exit papers over the course of three weeks, which makes me wonder why I wasn't interviewed more thoroughly. Firing someone during on-boarding is essentially condemning their learning style. The CEO's personal commitment to diversity is not permeating the organization in a meaningful way.

HubSpot is a place that highly values diversity and inclusion--like many companies in tech, we've said we have continued work to do to be where we want to be, and that's something our CEO is heavily involved in and all of our teams work collectively to ensure we are working towards daily. Because these reviews are anonymous, I won't comment further on the specifics of this experience, but as with everything we do here, we hope to learn and grow from the feedback you've given us to date both in person and via this channel, and continue to make HubSpot a dynamic and inclusive place to work. Sincerely, Katie

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback and for helping our engineering team grow as a TL. I agree we still have a relatively young team, and am hopeful that both the addition of more senior folks and the number of folks having families within the org will both ensure that we are all more empathetic to working parents throughout the company. Keep the feedback coming, thanks so much for all you do! -Katie
