Pros

Talented colleagues who are truly best in class. The design and product peers I worked with were inspiring, supportive, and highly skilled. At times the work felt promising and exciting, with moments where collaboration shined. I valued the leadership I had directly, she genuinely cared about us and tried to do right by the team.

Cons

The company struggled to attract and retain customers, and it was difficult to compete in an already saturated market. The product marketing manager quit and was never replaced. We simply were not marketing for a long period of time and there was a big push to add all the features, which meant bringing in contractors and working late nights and weekends. Many of us on the product team ended up burned out. Even after that effort, a marketing firm was brought in but still couldn’t generate enough interest in the product. Eventually the team was asked to go door to door at childcare centers and attend short pep talks about buy in. None of us had signed up for sales roles, and it was discouraging to be told that hesitation meant we lacked passion. In the end most of us were laid off despite giving our best. Now the software is being given away for free with promos which seems to show that the real challenge was never us it’s simply that the market doesn’t need another childcare software.

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective. We’re grateful that you highlighted the strength of your colleagues and the collaboration you experienced. Those qualities are central to who we are and what we want to preserve as we move forward. We also hear and respect the challenges you described. Change is never easy, and reorganizations, especially those that result in talented people leaving, are always a last resort and something we don’t take lightly. At the same time, they are sometimes necessary as we align the organization around a “customer first” mindset and sharpen our focus on delivering meaningful innovation and value to those we serve. We recognize the market we operate in is competitive, and that requires us to evolve our approach to work. While stretching beyond comfort zones can feel challenging, we believe it’s essential for growth. By encouraging employees, including designers, to meet and talk directly with customers and prospects, we’re intentionally building deeper customer empathy. This helps our teams better understand client needs and ultimately create more impactful solutions. We also understand that this kind of challenge is not for everyone and respect that for those who want to have clear, well defined roles that do not interface with customers . We’re committed to growing in a way that is both customer-centric and employee-supportive, and feedback like this helps us reflect and improve so that our communication to our people is more authentic and transparent.

Pros

Umm… none whatsoever. Zero Pros. You will despise this place.

Cons

Since the new COO came on board, the culture has taken a sharp turn for the worse. In the name of “restructuring,” they cleaned house and let go of many of the people who built this company from the ground up. The ones who carried the institutional knowledge, passion, and heart that made Jackrabbit special. What’s left now feels corporate, cold, and disconnected from the values we once stood for. Morale is at an all-time low, and the new leadership team seems more focused on control and optics than on the employees or the customers. It’s been painful to watch the company’s identity and community disappear almost overnight. There are no designers left, everyone’s role has shifted and what you grew up studying/learning in school doesn’t matter anymore as you will probably have multiple titles (with salesman being one).
