Pros

Some pros are the 40% discount, the experience I have gained helping customers, dealing with co-workers, and selling to all the different personalities that walked through the door.

Cons

The pay is ridiculous. I am a co-manager, I get a base pay, commission, and a cut of what the store sells (at least that is what my Store Manager told me). I worked in fast food prior to this job and made over $9/hr, which isn't a lot, but with overtime factored in, it was nice. At Journeys, I average $8.30/hr. Overtime is $3.something. Not as nice. Just trying to get that holiday commission! We're forced to SELL SELL SELL to every person. SOPs. Standards of Performance: Socks, multiples, and accessories. Four pairs of shoes is presented to every customer, so hopefully you can get them to purchase at least two, (or more!). Plus a package of socks is shown while they're seated because it is harder for them to turn down. If your customer isn't completely annoyed with the three extra pairs of shoes you have brought out to them yet and the package of socks, you also have to point out an accessory based on something you notice them wearing or similar to the shoe they picked out. Once you have shown the shoes, the socks, and the accessories, you're most likely really annoyed along with the customer, also, you're probably at the cash register where you have to show SHOE CARE! This is where you tell a little story about how you ruined a pair of shoes because you weren't using the shoe care product(s), but maybe the pair you're wearing now has the shoe care product(s) on it and they look great and are protected! Journeys wants you to keep pushing products onto customers until you get five 'no's'. Sometimes you can feel the customer trying to stab you with their eyes. And do not forget any of those things at my store because my store manager will be on you like a vulture... "What did you forget to do?" "What could you have done better?" "What should you have suggested?" My manager cannot be different from any other manager. She wears shoes that she has not bought. She lies on the bulk counts. Our store is negative 400+ pairs of shoes and she claims to not know anything about it. Money goes missing from the drawers from work and she is always aware of it, and never worried about it. She's also late everyday. Late to interviews. Late to new employees' first days. Late. She was a half hour late for my first day of work. "Anonymous" Reporting is a joke, by the way. You can email from a work computer, leave a VOICEMAIL, or send a letter. And nothing gets investigated.
