Pros

Great Employee Discount Fun work environment

Cons

Poor Salary (Co Manager base pay- $160 a week) 65 plus hours a week Company makes it known that you are disposable No hours for part time employees Impossible Sales goals The company requires management to work a minimum of 45 hours per week. However, in my time there it was never less than 60 hours a week. It is a commission based job which sounds pretty good. But when your store is located in an outdoor mall in New Jersey between the months of January and May there is very little foot traffic. You are given little to no hours to give to your part time employees, and if your store is not hitting the numbers it needs to be hitting, you must cut your part timers shifts. My store had two managers, myself and the store manager. We each worked six days a week and one of those days was an open to close where we were alone until 6pm when we could have a part timer come in for 3 hours. Between the hours of 10am and 6pm we could not leave the sales floor, go to the restroom, eat, or even sit down because we did not have anyone to cover the floor. It would not have been SO bad if the company had made it worth my while. I did not have a life outside of work. I worked, slept, then went back to work. And when I really looked at my paycheck, it was not even close to worth it. Bi weekly during the holidays I would bring home around $1,200 a check. Not too bad. During the off season however, in a two week pay period I would work 140 hours and my check would come out to around $750. When you do the math, it is less than minimum wage. You are expected to have a certain percentage of your sales be Socks (1%) Multiples (25%) and Accessories (10%). If you do not hit at least 2 out of 3 of these for four months you lose your job. If you do not hit your monthly sales goal for four months you lose your job. Not four consecutive months. Not four months in a year. Four months in your career. So if you work for the company for four years, and miss your sales goal one month a year, you will be let go. Your write ups do not go away after a certain period of time, and upper management will always let you know how easy it would be for them to let you go. Upper management offered no support or encouragement. The DM would come in every month and threaten everyone with their jobs because of the lack of customers. All in all it was a fun job at times, but not even close to being worth the amount of stress. I took the first offer I was given to get out of that place.

Pros

Great staff! The store is very laid back and easy going. The customer are normal really nice to work with.

Cons

The pay vs hours you put in. Managers normally work 60+ hours for a small insulting base pay plus commission. The District manager seriously lacks people management skills. During your Monday meetings he will fuss about how your store is the worst in his district but then fails to come for a store and goes to another store. Even after you ask him repeatly to come to your store to help find the issues you missed. When he does grace your store his quick to leave and will leave even if you have interviews set up for him.
