Low pay, Dumb sales goals

Pros

My co-workers were cool and you don't have to wear a uniform unless it's on a weekend during the holiday season.

Cons

The sales goals are kind of ridiculous- they expect you to sell shoes in multiples, meaning if a customer comes in wanting one pair of shoes we are expected to do everything we can to try and convince them to buy at least one more pair, and then we have to pressure people into buying socks or other accessories and the shoe protectant kits. If we don't meet these goals you will be warned, sent home, or fired. The work environment is not laid-back at all, there is a lot of pressure to sell and my coworkers were constantly stressing about their sales goals. On top of that, the way this company treats their managers is terrible; the assistant manager was working 48 hours a week and being paid salary, he said that when he did the math to figure out what he was making per hour, he was hardly making more than minimum wage. The store manager had to work 50 hours per week on salary. And that doesn't include the extra time the assistant manager and manager had to spend on the job, that is just what they were scheduled for.

Pros

Great Discount, Releaxed, Diverse. I liked the fact that journeys was an easy going job outside of the holiday season. I met a lot of cool people, a few of which became close friends.

Cons

Fake growing potential- The company acts like they want to promote personal career growth, but in reality they simply hold you more captive. I saw numerous managers breakdown due to the stress of working 50-60 hour weeks and only receiving pay for 45 hours.

Pros

A positive work environment is provided due to the fact the manager is also a long time friend. The discount is alright however I can't really afford to take advantage of it.

Cons

You cannot live off of these wages. You are scheduled 2 to 3 days a week tops if you're a part timer. They do not base pay off of experience, part timers make minimum wage; assistant managers make roughly a dollar more; however working around 60 hours a week "makes up" for the small pay increase. People in my district fear the district manager which is not okay. Management in the real world outside of journey's (aside from marley station) provides guidance rather than simply strickening your employees with fear.
