Pros

Great discount; cool, easy-going customers; streamlined operational procedures (i.e. for merchandise transfers) were among the most efficient I've ever seen; goals set by corporate were very realistic and achievable

Cons

The commission plan is the same as the store's higher-volume cousin, Journeys. That makes no sense, as it's impossible to make any money under that structure in a low volume store except for a total of 6 weeks during the year when volume increases. I made minimum wage the whole time I was there, never earning a penny more. The store runs on two managers and no one else has keys. You alternate 5 and 6 day work weeks every other week, and if the other person goes in vacation then you work open to close all week. You're by yourself most of the time, and even when you're not you don't get a real lunch or break. You are allowed to run out and grab food but then you have to come right back and eat in the back room. You are a slave to the store and you make less than a 16-year-old McDonald's cashier. You never hear from upper management, such as your DM, except when they complain about your numbers. They're MIA for the rest of the time.

Pros

Coworkers were cool to work with

Cons

Heavily commission-based with the lowest base pay I’ve ever seen (mine was about $5/hr). I’ll never understand companies who push so hard for you to sell their products, but won’t even give you a decent commission compensation either. Then want you to work 6 days w mandatory weekends. So much for “flexibility”. I got a really bad taste when I got told customers were “liars” bc they didn’t want to spend their money on extra things. Ya’ll don’t know people’s situations and nor do you pay enough for me to try and judge. That mom probably worked her butt off to be able to just afford a pair of shoes for their kid, who are you to say otherwise? And in this economy? No thanks.

Pros

40% discount, the full time benefits they rub in your face seem great but when it comes time to utilize them it’s suddenly situational. I assume that’s a location issue with us though so I’d still count that as a pro. Being able to wear what you like ( unless it’s shorts, a tank top, skirt birks, crop top )

Cons

I was a branch manager for 2 years prior to moving to journeys. I only left due to moving back to America. I have extensive sneaker knowledge, store knowledge, management knowledge and much more and yet I’m treated like a child. I was told in my second interview I would get rotating weekends off. Now that I have started im being told management HAVE to work every Saturday and Sunday. Not to mention that this is the only establishment I’ve ever known where full time is 45 hours not 40. My daily shifts are 9-7:30, or 11-9:30. I just think the expectations are ridiculous. The numbers were expected to meet with socks or shoe care as well as making sure the store is up to par and the employees are okay.
