Pros

A 40% discount is really awesome. Almost all of my coworkers were really cool and fun to be with. My manager was also very sweet. However, the only thing I do not regret about working at Shi is that I met my fiance through the company.

Cons

The pay is insulting. You are payed $6/hr plus 4% commission. The management plays favorites with hours, but in a bizarre way. I worked there when I was a high school student, and I was given 30-35 hours a week, while other employees who did not go to school and had this as their primary job would be scheduled maybe 20 hours a week. They expect you to make ridiculous sales goals, and your percentages can easily be thrown off if you sell more shoes than handbags or accessories. If you fail to meet your goal twice, you will be written up, if you fail to meet it once more you will be terminated. The managers also get payed on commission, which means that they compete with their employees and steal sales from them in order to make as much money as possible without thinking of their staff. You are required to hassle customers and pressure them into sales. Do NOT work at Shi or Journeys if you want to get payed decently and feel respected by the company and management

Pros

*Everyone can dress how they want. *Chill atmosphere. *Cool,... if you're like 16.

Cons

*Too much for little pay. They hold that 1 percent commission like it's a carrot. You sell 100 dollar shoes? You get a dollar for it. *SOPS. Oh my god, the obsession with them. Socks, shoe cleaners, and multiple shoes with one transaction. Meanwhile, you're lucky to get any customers, because their competitors (Ross, T.J Maxx, etc) sell these things for much cheaper. Majority of customers take a glance at a shoe, make a face, leave. I'm sureee it's because you didn't compliment them and ask them two unique questions. Oh, and the ridiculous way they want you to be on everyone's tail while they shop. And the competitive nature creates drama. You will literally argue with coworkers about them stealing your sale or vice versa. It literally creates a divide in the store. I've never seen so much drama, at a SHOE STORE.

Pros

The people are fun and energetic, and you’ll likely build friendships that last long after you leave.

Cons

After 15 years with Journeys, I can confidently say this company operates more like a cult than a career. Managers are required to work at least 45 hours a week, often pulling 12-hour days with no weekends off. The pay structure is commission-based, and while it sounds appealing at first, most managers don’t realize they’re barely making minimum wage. When your paycheck says “make up to min,” that means you’re literally being paid the minimum. Journeys sells you on the dream of growth and a “family culture,” but in reality, it’s long hours, poor compensation, and unrealistic expectations. The big “yearly party” they hype up is just another example — you have to qualify to attend, they push alcohol all night, and then expect you up early the next morning for training sessions. It’s exhausting and unfair, especially to younger employees who are just trying to prove themselves.
