      Great people, low pay, management has little interest in developer careers

      Pros

      The people are fantastic, many talented people there, and a lot of opportunity to learn new and exciting technologies

      Cons

      The pay for developers was as much as 10k below average, and management took very little interest in developer career growth. Some teams had senior developers and tech leads who took interest in the junior and mid-level developers they worked with, but while it was "official" policy that they spend time helping the developers, this was not always followed or given much focus at all.

      Pros

      Opportunity for smart people to get academic work in areas of low employment availability. Online teaching options which make it possible to live rurally or internationally and still teach. With only a Bachelor's degree you can teach math to college grads.

      Cons

      One of the most unethical, dishonest and disorganized companies I've ever worked for or worked with. You, as the teacher, are the face of this mess and have to deal with the students when Kaplan screws up. Their bottom line is money, and they will do anything to get it. The products are poor, but Kaplan gets by on its famous name and so cares little for actual outcomes, of either students or employees. It's difficult to teach the course knowing the product is bad.

      Some benefits despite the fact that it's only part-time

      Cons

      I was hired as a part-time SAT tutor. I completed all their online training. I let my regional manager know I was finished with the training, and ready to begin tutoring. I received no reply. I emailed again and was told to contact a different regional manager. I contacted this other regional manager and was told that it wasn't quite their busy season yet but there would be tutoring opportunities soon. It has been 2 months now and I have not been contacted by them to tutor any students.
