Pros

I've worked in corporate settings across the spectrum. Several large corporations, started several companies and have been a direct contributor, middle manager and leader in multiple groups and organizations in some of the most challenging and dynamic environments in business. With that said, this is one of the best work environments I have ever experienced. You have an opportunity to learn, experiment and take risks to deliver results. My managers were supportive and fun and avoided common pitfalls like micromanagement and panic when you work in a dynamic and tough environment. Despite being a veteran of digital marketing, publishing and various assignments I still had the opportunity to learn and grow while at Keypath. Unlike many large companies that try to pry their people into cookie cutter outfits(suits, business casual, etc) Keypath allows you to wear comfortable clothes and encourages a fun environment with Ping Pong, video games and other benefits. I'm sad I didn't find an environment like this earlier in my career. This is not a con just a fact: Keypath is in a changing industry but if you work in digital in any fashion you are used to change and excelling in a dynamic and challenging environment and so I did not find this environment to be any more challenging than any of my other digital marketing assignments. In fact many of my previous jobs were much tougher and lacked the fun, creative environment offered at Keypath.

Cons

Cons: Not really any. If you are up for challenges in a dynamic and creative environment then you will thrive. If you want to coast or perform routine work without change then this would not be a good fit.

Thank you for your comments and thoughts. I believe you have illustrated very nicely how the company is run, the culture, and the opportunities to grow in ones career. As I have said many times the EDU industry is in transition but I feel we have the amazing staff to capture the opportunities of tomorrow. Keep up the good work and thanks for what you do for Keypath.

Pros

Fantastic place to start right out of college. You will be able to build a large network of people. You will learn various new skills since people have to wear multiple hats due to being overworked. Work/Life Balance You will be able to get in at 8:30 and leave at 5:00. You won't get promoted that way, but no one gets promoted anyway so just punch the clock. Free Soda Machine Get as much as you want. No strings attached on that one. Holiday Week Off Christmas or News Years week off is pretty nice. Followed by you have 10 PTO/Sick days for the year. So enjoy that holiday break.

Cons

#1 2015-2016 Goal They listed improve the financial bottom line. Seriously? #2 2015-2016 Goal Employee engagement. Yep, that is par for the course listing your employees 2nd. Upper Management You never see these guys. Some are in Chicago and others just don't make their faces known. It is a huge miss from what we had a year ago when they were actually trying to turn this place around. Middle Management Most of these guys/gals will actually care about you as a person, but they have no actual power to do anything positive for your career. Unfortunately some of them might tell you otherwise to entice you to stay. PTO PTO for anyone working there less than 5 years is terrible at 10 days pto/sick. Insurance Insurance got worse this last year (helping that bottom line) Dental even got lowered on the quality of coverage Standard Office Items They down graded their coffee that is free to employees before I left. So everyone had to start buying and bringing in their own coffee makers, coffee, and K-cups. Game room is listed as a perk, but you won't have time to use it. If you do you will be a slacker. If you need good office supplies or monitors or even a chair you literally have to wait for someone to quit and claim their stuff. Not kidding. 2015 Reviews and Raises This was the snowball in my opinion. After change upon change the company average raise was below 4%. HR did a horrible job promoting this as performance based raises when really it was barely even a cost of living raise to cover insurance changes. If you had a great year with no negative marks your raise was still garbage. Promotions They hang this over employees heads since most people are younger and working hard to get more money. The New Name Weeks after recovering from the raise announcements employees were invited (required) to attend an all company meeting at Sporting KC Park. Upper management announced a new brand for the company. How did they chose this brand you ask? They said that an outside company was paid to help them come up with the name. Could have used that money for raises and asked your talented staff to come up with new brand ideas! Cubicles They are not cubicles they are 6 person pods. So each pod has 6 desks in it. If you hate the people you sit with your job will be that much more fun. Shocked by the Reviews on Glassdoor Either current staff/management are posting positive reviews to help with recruiting or more people are asleep to what is going on there than I thought. OPM Division Sinking thousands of dollars into this part of the company trying to mirror what some of the current upper management did at their last company. From all the updates I ever heard it seems like a huge cluster. CEO Response to My Review Don't say I should have come talked to you. You were hardly ever in KC and it would have done nothing but anger my bosses that I went straight to you with problems. Clearly noted concerns were not getting to your desk or you weren't doing anything with them. You will say that you guys are trying hard with employees, but the place sucked to work at. Investment Company Keypath Education is owned by an investment firm. When investment firms want there money back what do you think happens? 1. Budget Cuts 2. Poor Raises 3. Stop back filling positions 4 Reduce spending anywhere possible 5. Layoffs (maybe someday?)

I normally take the time to respond to criticism if I believe you want to improve the company. These comments are just to bash all the employees’ hard work. They are not constructive or correct in any way. We wish you the best.

Pros

The people in the specialist and middle-management roles have world-class talent and will go on to work for Google, Facebook, and cutting-edge digital agencies. Internalize what they say and take leadership’s advice with a grain of salt. Work here for the experience and move on quickly. Maybe return one day.

Cons

The company is wrapped around questionable (but momentarily profitable) lead-generation tactics and the one department they can’t charge for: account management. Leadership tries to shoehorn direct-response tactics onto organic marketing efforts because they can’t set client expectations. This is especially troublesome when trying to move away from the for-profit industry and attract traditional higher education institutions as one of 25+ OPM providers. The bigger problem, though, is the company is disconnected from the real challenges of higher education. They rely on empty statements like “showcase student outcomes” when non-traditional education startups are doing a much better job of this. Priding yourself on client service won’t help if the client’s customers go elsewhere for their education. Completely unrelated, the “insurance” plan for single employees is close to not having insurance. Other area employers contribute a large portion of the employee’s full deductible to an HSA to make up for the lack of co-pay. Take note.

Appreciate your candor and you must really care about the company to write such a long and well thought out letter. While I will disagree on a few points, some of your thoughts are right on! Let me address a couple of your points: 1. While I agree we need to adapt to new ideas, we still have to service the over 250 clients with the service levels they desire and contracted. We are working hard to change, but can only move as fast as our clients move. Sometimes this is fast sometimes this is not. 2. Certainly I would not disagree with tech needs and we continue to invest in new technology to help our clients and provide more assistance internally. We have invested over 6m dollars in capex the past two years alone. We are making progress but I have said many times we do have gaps. More to come! 3. I do not agree with your statement that we don't listen to our employees or have little insights on where we should go (obviously paraphrasing a bit). Over the last 18 months we have launched OPM to cater to non-profit schools, opened offices in UK, Australia, and Canada to diversify our US business, developed new CRM software for OPM/Integrated Marketing, and continue to expand our career prep software, Seelio, to many schools. What I am sorry about is that we maybe did not do a great job with showcasing these initiatives to all employees. Lastly, the EDU space is going through a lot of change and the team at Keypath are all working hard to improve our business and future proof the company for the next 25 years. I am not sure how many companies you have run, but these is not an easy tasks and take time, but I am confident in our people. I wish you all the best in your new endeavors. Steve
