Pros

You are given 3 weeks paid vacation- 2 for being there, and 1 more for working 6 days a week during December. The benefits are very good, including dental and eye plans. You are also gauarenteed every other weekend off which is unheard of in retail.

Cons

The biggest issues I had was not beeing developed. Out of a 9 month time period my district manager never walked my store floor with me once to show me what I was doing well and what I needed to improve. This was the main reason I left. I wanted to learn and get better at what I was doing, but no one seemed willing to teach me.

Pros

Kohl's gives back to the communities in which they are present and as a member of the company you play a first hand role in giving back to local organizations and charities. 3 weeks paid vacation in your first year, 6 paid holidays. The company continues to grow while other retailers scale back- particularly rival department store chains such as Macy's and Bon-Ton. Although scaled back from previous years there are still plans to open over 25 new stores in 2009 and continued remodels of exhisting stores. Kohl's will have a presence in 49 states with the opening of locations in Alaska in 2009 and have over 1,000 stores nationwide and are continuing to grow. Projections for growth on the west course are high, particularly in the California market.

Cons

It is retail so there are long hours and 6 days per week from Thanksgiving through Christmas. However, you are compensated for those extra 5 days (1 day per week) by being given 5 extra vacation days the following year. Typical hours worked in a week will be 40-45 during non-peak times but can easily reach 70 hours a week during the busy times. In all honesty it is a company you feel good about working for and are excited to go to work. If you can handle the ever changing hours (days then nights, weekends etc) that are present in any retailer, Kohl's is a place you can feel comfortable having a career and looking forward to growing.

Pros

I get first dibs on the clearance items. I love the towels and great face cream. I also like when people allow their children to play in the toy area, while Mom is trying on a new pair of shoes. Dirty bird.

Cons

I have no life during the holiday season. Long hours require exerting every last bit of energy possible. Babysitting incompetent employees is a requirement to keep this job. I also love the people who wonder why there are long lines during sales, and have a special pass to move to the front. This is not Disney world. If you wake up to get a good deal, than the money you are saving is obviously worth waiting for. Do not ask me for a coupon.
