Pros

Great training. Liberty Mutual gives you plenty of support during the licensing process. They insure you are ready to sell once you are on plan as far as product and systems. The benefits are very good with a pension and high matching 401k, currently 7% from dollar one.

Cons

Working as a captive agent has its draw backs. If your rates are not competitive the job becomes pretty difficult. The Sales Rep roles have high turnover. The company recently lowered the guaranteed salaries by all most half. You do not own your book of business and the renewals are terrible, somewhere around 1%.

Pros

Good pay - comparable to market. Let's face it; if you're working for an insurance company you're making decent money and not breaking your back. There are good managers. And many managers take interest in the employees. At least in my office, layoffs in other departments do weigh on the the employees and the managers. Many paths to success. Sometimes paths are cut short (e.g. those at the wrong place during a reorg) but employees in general are encouraged to grow and try new things.

Cons

Large company means there are negatives here and there. Some managers may be incompetent. Some offices may have low morale. Some may be under-staffed. There may be a youth-bias in hiring, but it's not ubiquitous. But frankly, the naysayers can only speak for themselves. Obviously, they will not know the whole organization.

Pros

A check. Point blank period. benefits suck more each day but working here is better than not having a job.

Cons

micromanagement at its finest. a shame how they closed up so much here out west. backstabbing managers, kiss-ups only thrive. sad state of affairs. ive been with this company for 13 years and they seem ready to boot me out the door. decent raises stop coming once they feel you're "trapped" for lack of a better term. they pay young people fresh out of school, who will probably leave them after a couple of years, then look at the aging workforce such as myself and figure out ways to eradicate us slowly but surely. im forced to compromise my morals everyday to meet goals
