Laid back, low pay

Pros

$5,000 a year tuition assistance by parent company. Laid back with little micromanagement. Casual dress code. Good first job out of college. Management is supportive. New building. Flexible hours and compressed summer schedule.

Cons

Hired right when they stopped meeting the bar for bonuses and it really affected what I took home each year (for 4 years). However that didn't stop the executive team from all slapping each other on the back at the annual Christmas party and handing each other checks. Pay is very low for industry averages in all departments. Little opportunity to present new ideas or develop them fully. Group think in executive meetings. Little diversity at corporate for a very diverse store employee and customer base.

Pros

You'll get a good discount. Occasionally you'll see some celebs because everyone shops at Lids. If you enjoy sports and fashion, you see what's new first.

Cons

You are expected to be available all of the time. If you don't make yourself 100% available, you will have a grudge held against you. District Managers and Regional Managers are very good at making things sound like the greatest opportunity ever. If you don't do exactly what they want though, you're stuck with no chance at advancement. They will hold grudges and play favorites. This coming from a former employee who left on good terms with the company and bosses.

Pros

There are some really great people that work for the company. The stores can be fun to work in and the employee discount is good.

Cons

Work life balance is really awful. It is expected that your job come before anything else. Pay is way below industry average. Store employees are expected to work a ridiculous set schedule.
