Pros

Incredible programs that are proven to work. Opportunity to make a significant difference for children and adults struggling to read and comprehend. Environment is warm, friendly and positive.

Cons

Can be difficult to obtain consistent hours during the school year (September through May). Some weeks you can have 30-40 hours, and other weeks only 10-20 hours.

Pros

Many opportunities to build positive relationships with coworkers and clients. Flexible work hours. Paid training. Fun environment. A recurring summer job, if you are interested in doing it for multiple summers.

Cons

Much of the work you do with clientele is repetitious and monotonous, however, the progress they make is worth it. It can also be mentally and physically draining, depending on the age, maturity and attitude of your client. Also, not many full-time positions are available, so I wouldn't look at this position as a career-building experience.

Pros

Getting to know the families and kids. Their personal stories were oftentimes heartbreaking. These are some strong people. It made me a more sensitive and better person. I loved playing Old Maid with the little girls during their breaks. Medical benefits were amazing. It paid for paid for my in vitro.

Cons

Owners and management in San Luis Obispo trying to micromanage from 800 miles away. Also, the pay was ridiculously low.
