Don't think you can be accepted here

Pros

Cool but not proven science, great peers

Cons

Management is awful. ALL of them. They'll pretend to be your colleagues but when upper management says you're gone, none of them will talk to you anymore or answer questions like "why was I let go". I think they were wanting low paid post-docs and technicians as the new business model. The "core values" are BS. Management doesn't follow them. Middle management doesn't follow them. They'll also expect you to work 60-80 hrs/week. They can kick you out at some time of day but expect you to go home and work more. They used to pay for dinners if you worked late, they'll just make you go home and work. That was mentioned to me by upper management. It's a dysfunctional atmosphere. In subsequent interviews, I had potential employers say "we're not like Locus, we want our employees to be happy" and "yeah, I had employees who left to work there and wanted to come back because of the environment". Locus has a bad/dysfunctional reputation in RTP.

Pros

Interesting science/technology, good overall rapport amongst those of the same rank.

Cons

Management is not remotely equipped to manage people, but that's primarily because they simply don't value it or find it important. For some reason, it seems to insult their intelligence/scientific aptitude to focus on the people in any way. A lot of toxic positivity. Expect to drink a gallon of the Kool-Aid every day just to avoid shame and suspicion from management about your 'lack of dedication to the company goals.' Management expects everyone of all ranks to have the save level of stake/personal investment in the company as the CEO. Bit deluded.

Sinking Ship

Pros

You will be given tasks that you likely wouldn’t be trusted with elsewhere and experience is hands-on.

Cons

Very weak upper management that does not care about their employees. They repeatedly make fatal mistakes with very little to no accountability. Pay and benefits are far below industry average and work hours are very long. The company’s scientific direction is lost and going downhill quickly. Turnover rate in the past year was nearly 50%, which is the highest I’ve ever heard of. I would not recommend hopping aboard a sinking ship.
