It’s a hard “NO” from me

Pros

Really awesome science. They’re good at hiring smart, dedicated people, but not good at keeping them.

Cons

Expect the management team to not care about you. The majority of them have gotten very good at giving a false sense of caring, compassion and understanding. However, they’ll never actually stand up for you when the time comes for support. They will give you tons of opportunities to grow, but give you none of the tools to succeed. I have made many great friends and connects from my time there, but none of them are the upper management. They will preach their core values, especially “transparency” but there is not action behind the words and they use it more as an attack than an expectation. There is a “typical startup environment” but this is just a terrible work culture and unrealistic expectation.

Pros

the people you work directly with are amazing, opportunity to learn a lot for those who are entry level

Cons

but most of them won't be there much longer. upper management gives a top down hierarchical trickle effect to all of the workers, giving them impossible deadlines and expectations to meet (which causes a lot of stress and disfunction). if you don't meet the crazy expectations, you're kicked out of the cult. expect to be doing 3-4 jobs at the same time, while being paid for less than 1. salaries are exceptionally low compared to other companies and opportunities in RTP. if you're coming in with experience, they don't take it into consideration, which is why they look for fresh graduates/post-docs to groom into working 60 hours/week. you create great relationships because misery loves company, and that's what this company feeds off of. "unlimited PTO" is not real depending on what department you're in. work/life balance is nonexistent. you could be the best worker, but if upper management doesn't like you, you're out and never coming back. the ship is sinking.
