Chronically understaffed, RN's required to provide excellent nursing care to 7 pt.s staffing with no regard to acuity level of illnesses. Often times with one CNA to 10-15 pt.s. As an RN many times pt. Loads are extremely unsafe, with 1-2 pt.s in full blown DT's, several total cares, and not enough staff to take anyone to the many tests that need to be done. Call lights unanswered due to lack of staff, yet we are instructed to never reveal we are understaffed to pt.s, leaving them to assume a lack of concern for their needs on the part of the staff. Paper charting, as well as computer charting, no unit clerks, sometimes no CNA's too. Charging pt.s for IMC care with the same pt. to nurse ratios as mentioned, no IMC care provided. Improperly functioning equipment. Frozen benefits, mandatory OT, unsafe working environment. Staff concerns falling on deaf ears in management. Punitive responses to expressions of concern. High staff turnover with the exception of those who have small children in school and or home owners with mortgage payments.
