Terrible Workplace

Pros

Hourly pay with guaranteed OT.

Cons

Poorly run organization that neither supports or has any regard for it's providers. The Examiner position is advertised as quality versus quantity but this is not upheld in practice. No value is placed on the quality of work. Excessive management hierarchy oversees providers rather than the medical director, none of whom actually know what it takes for the examiners to work efficiently, nor do they make efforts to learn. Decisions regarding clinical care, discipline, and termination are made by detached middle managers without consultation with clinic management or staff. Expectations are unrealistic given the inadequate resources available and ineffective processes. As a whole, this group employs a management style based on bullying and fear of termination. Provider feedback and self-advocacy, no matter how professionallly conveyed, is viewed as insubordination. Employees suffer quietly as they watch those who speak up be punished and terminated without cause. HR is uninvolved and unhelpful. The company is struggling to maintain its contract with the VA and instead of facilitating a partnership with the examiners to streamline processes and allow for increased productivity, the choice continues to be poor decision making due to lack of knowledge and threat of termination on spot if standards are not met at the moment an evaluation is performed, even if that standard would be achieved by close of business. There are so many reasons to avoid working for this company.

Pros

Opportunity for compassionate, humanitarian interactions with a patient population that has generally been exploited.

Cons

Recruiters are dishonest and sell you on perks that don't exist. Outrageously expensive group health insurance, especially if you have a family. No annual raise and no PTO accrual for the first full year (although you do accrue sick time). Required to work either Saturday or Sunday without exception, so no more social life. Very poor communication from management.
