Pros

It was a steady job and the pay was decent

Cons

Management did not care at all about lower-level employees and hiring/promotion decisions were often nonsensical, resulting in extremely unqualified people being in high positions You will also be expected to work Saturdays and evenings and often drive around to people's houses by yourself to collect late payments.

Thank you for your review. During holidays and peak business days of the month, Saturdays and evenings are possible in this industry to help better serve our customers. We always make decisions we feel are in the best interest of the business and employees that they will be leading. This is why the company has implemented a policy that prohibits the field visit aspect of the collection process. This was implemented one year ago, and if there are any violations of policy, HR has an open door policy on reporting these instances. Pros

It was better to have a job then to not have a job.

Cons

Found management to be unapproachable and conniving. Did not care about the well being of their employees. Goals were unreasonable. Very stressful untrusting environment for no reason. Department was a revolving door from the beginning.

Thank you for your review. It is unfortunate to hear that you felt management wasn't supportive of their employees. We understand that individuals possess different management styles, and some employees prefer one specific style over others. It is important to Mariner Finance that our employees feel motivated and supported at work, and we will continue to ensure any concerns in the workplace are communicated appropriately with management. Although it is disheartening you felt employee expectations were out of reach, we always make it a priority to recognize and reward those employees who work hard and stay committed to our company. If you would like to discuss your specific circumstances then we encourage you to contact HR.

Pros

The most enjoyable thing is helping the customers that really need it but the pressure to make loans each day is beyond normal expectations. There is always pressure each day to meet numbers in this business but over the last year I have seen it another level. Also, I must say there are some good people working for the company but with the other reviews you can see their are some issues not being corrected. Sadly, high turnover is an issue and it seems like even when proper management does come along they leave quickly due to the atmosphere.

Cons

Worked in this business for a long time but must say I cannot recommend working here. Work/Home balance is the worst I've seen by far for management and upper management. Expectations and workload are beyond unreasonable at many times and this seems to be at every level with upper management complaining much of the time that they can't keep up. Does seem the company seems split between an established market in the north and more recent purchased branches in the south getting worse conditions. Next, their is an issue with trust. It seems items that items informed to staff such as pay, benefits, policies, etc. during purchase transitions seem to change or be disregarded down the road. There have been numerous issues with personnel upset over the last year due to items changing after they were discussed and this seems to go all the way up to regional management. A typical day is lending and collecting with the majority of it being phone calls for both but the aggressive and at many times unrealistic expectations, processes, and amount assigned seem to be where the workload becomes unbalanced. Combined with these items, the thick skin needed to work here just makes for an unpleasant atmosphere that fosters more motivation from fear than anything else. Yelling, inappropriate language at times, and threats of job loss seem to go unchecked at many levels of management and seem to roll from the very top.

Thank you for providing us with constructive feedback on your experiences while you were working with us. It is unfortunate to hear your working environment did not meet your professional standards and that you felt expectations were set at an unattainably high level. We will continue to work with our upper level management in improving their management style and how they motivate their staff.
