Not the Best Place to Work

Pros

-Retreat director is a hard worker, very flexible with your schedule, understands other obligations -Strong sense of unity within coworkers -Good for sales resume -Monthly massage

Cons

-Owner does not really know how to run a business -Owner records you while you're working and listens in on conversations, then calls from home asking about what she heard/saw -Loyalty is placed in new hires instead of current employees (weekends, closing, etc.)

It's pretty flexible in terms of scheduling.

Cons

It's in sales but and there are sales goals that we were pushed to make by being dishonest with clients.

Any company you work for has sales goals and we are privileged in this industry that sales = service. All sales are products or services that benefit the client in a therapeutic way. Some therapists are just not comfortable making recommendations or communicating benefits to clients.

Pros

Good experience. You have a ton of clients and see all kinds of different people, so you get a well-rounded experience as far as that is concerned. Once you've been there for a while, it's pretty guaranteed that you will be booked the whole time you're there.

Cons

The pay is not great. $15 per 50 minute massage. If you aren't massaging, you aren't getting paid. So you don't get paid when you're doing laundry or cleaning...still haven't figured out how that is legal. Tips aren't great either. People tip based on their membership price, not based on market value for the massage or on how well you massage. No raises or room to make more money. I work 5 days a week and massage 6 hours each day and can barely pay my bills. This wasn't what I was expecting when I graduated from school. They expect you to show up, even if you're sick. They also change your schedule without making sure it's ok with you first. And if you aren't booked, you still have to stay and do laundry or clean, even though you aren't getting paid unless you're massaging.
