Pros

Great discount, good work/life balance. Most of my co-workers were pretty cool but gossip seems inevitable.

Cons

Sales and credit card expectations. If I'm going to be pushed so much to make sales numbers, I'd like some commission because I'm busting my ass. You're constantly lectured on one thing or another. You're sales are great? Cool, but you're UPT is not good enough. Customer connection is generally not bad, but one customer was extremely stand-offish and did not want to be helped. You're still expected to follow them around and bug them. Manager scolded me in the middle of the store for not "connecting" with her, and the customer did not like the things I picked out for her, so my manager picked out something different. Best part was when the customer came out of the dressing room, mid-scolding, and manager asked how she liked what she picked out as if to prove to me something. Customer stated she did not like it at all. It was awesome.

Pros

The people at Maurices don't just have a mission statement on a sign, they believe in their core values and follow them every day.

Cons

They can be "Minnesota Nice" in a way that does not drive the business forward, especially as part of a large retail group like ascena.

A complete mess

Pros

The discount is good, but most of the clothes are overpriced anyway. It is a good way to get customer service experience, seeing as you have to bend over backwards for people constantly.

Cons

The expectations given are unreasonable and unobtainable, especially for managers. The amount of responsibility is astronomical for the very low amount of pay. The management gives promises to associates of hiring within and moving up in the company, but does not follow through. There is also an extreme lack of communication. This is a commission job without any commission, reflecting the corporation's greed. You are forced to meet selling standards that can be unreasonable, and to sign people for credit cards and you receive no benefit for it, other than not being scolded. Appreciation and acknowledgement are seldom given out here. I believe this company is unfair to it's employees, and unless you are absolutely desperate, do not settle for this.
