-Culture is extremely forced. You are expected to be friends with everyone, even if you don’t want to be. If everyone goes out after work, you are also expected to go out and if you don’t, it’s a frowned upon (even though they may tell you otherwise). They tend to forget that you have family and friends outside of Maxwell. A life outside of Maxwell.
-Do not dare share your REAL thoughts. They try to promote an open/transparent environment, but it is anything but. If you have any feelings that they believe to be negative, you are better off keeping them to yourself.
-The “originals” think they OWN the place and the CEO lets them get away with it. If I hear “back when we were at pearl street” one more time, I will go crazy. Most of the original people come off as though they think they are better than everyone and act like you owe them something. Well, we don't. They can be very rude towards newer folks and make them feel uncomfortable in a new setting. You are just like everyone else and the CEO should inform you of that.
-If you aren’t an original or a favorite, don’t expect to be heard, recognized, or promoted. The only way to get there is to brownnose.
-I’m not even sure upper management knows I exist. They seem to recognize the same people over and over again, and do not acknowledge others for their accomplishments and hard work, no matter how great they were. Being recognized for something, I mean anything would bring up peoples morale who aren’t usually recognized, but I wouldn’t get your hopes up.
-People are promoted that shouldn’t be, AT ALL. Some people have been moved into higher positions that do not deserve to. The fact that they oversee people is mindboggling, when they can be seen doing less work than everyone else and scrolling through their newsfeed during meetings. Not to mention, the lack of people skills they hold.
-Salaries are alllll ovvvvver the place. One person could make X in a position and another person is making Y in the same role. People’s paychecks differ dramatically from one another and it’s very unfair. Do not even THINK about asking for a raise, even if you think you deserve it. Some people are getting high salaries that shouldn’t be and some of the hard workers, juggling multiple roles, are not getting the compensation they deserve.
-Training is a nightmare. Everyone learns differently and at different paces, but at Maxwell, the second it takes you a little longer to catch on, red flag. They’ll be sure to warn you, rather than mentor you.
-Your hours are very flexible which is great, but don’t let that trick you. If you leave at 5:15pm, people look at you like you have 5 heads. Again, people at Maxwell forget that you do have a life outside of here and actually have friends other than Maxwellians, people who actually take the time to get to know me.
-The culture here is bizarre. It’s hard to explain until you are actually in it. It always feels like you are competing with your peers or someone is out to get you. People are constantly watching their backs rather than being a team and protecting each other. Lots of secrets are being told and it makes for a toxic environment.
-It is SO cliquey! It makes it very difficult to find your place here. Welcome to Maxwell High. There are always those few people who don’t acknowledge you because you aren’t part of their “group.”. Just be courteous and include everyone. It won’t kill you. We're not in high school anymore, or are we?
-Long story short, the perks are not worth the working environment or the salary.
