Pros

The Pets Hard working co-workers Unlike some of the other reviews, I think the company as a whole is making efforts in the right direction towards a better employee experience. It’s slow going but no one can expect changes overnight. I have worked in two different departments in past several years and feel that my second department does work well as a team for the most part. I really enjoy my job and am proud of working for MedVet. They do have animal benefits and allow employees to carry a balance & make payments. Pet Bereavement Day-Not all companies offer that.

Cons

Not to say that MedVet is without it’s faults but no company is perfect and whoever thinks they can find the perfect job/company without any factors they might like to change, well they are just being naive. Lower cost for employee pet care would be really appreciated but since it is a bigger company I’m not sure of the financial restrictions they may have, that’s not my area of the company. Some of their management training should be a bit more extensive. Not as many years experience between PTO increases would be really nice! Voices were not really listened to concerning the new clinic spaces. Room was not left for future expansions.

Thanks so much for taking the time to write a review. And yes, we are trying! On the employee pet discount, we have limitations to what we can do and that is governed by the IRS, unfortunately. We are really early on in our leadership development and management training journey, so you will see more coming in the future. I'm sorry to hear about the new clinic space. I know that there always trade-offs, and if you have specific feedback, send me a note and I can get you connected with the right folks. And just a personal call out to the great folks at the Columbus hospital who recently save my dog, Millie, who was experiencing pretty serious liver toxicity. Since she had to be hospitalized for two days, I was very grateful for the employee discount and the payment plans, even if it would've been nice if the IRS let us give a bigger discount.

Pros

Incredible company to work for. There are many long term employees, they come and stay because of the employee experience and they come back for the same reason. I have personally seen three employee come back to our department in the last year. In our area alone, one employee with 17 years and another with over 10. I have sat in on a talk about brain surgery and worked side by side with a PHD's. The staff is best in the business, but egos are checked at the door as everyone works together to provide excellence in care. The company growth is incredible which requires teamwork and leadership from everyone. It's an exciting place to work because there is always something new to focus on and new opportunities opening up all the time. Many companies say we can't accomplish that because.... MedVet says we can do it and then the team pulls together to make it happen. The pace is fast, the work is hard, but you won't find a more compassionate company or compassionate clients who thank you for all that you do.

Cons

It's difficult to keep up with the pace and stay organized but well worth the effort.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. Growth is exciting but we know it can be hard -- and it does require teamwork. We are lucky to work with such great co-workers!

Pros

Of course it’s helping our patients

Cons

This company treats their own employees like scum. Most companies have good employee discounts but this one will find any excuse to charge their own employees! We know how much each drug or test cost or we are the ones examining / performing procedures on our own pets, including euthanasia...and they still mark up the cost over 100% AND it goes under non production so that means it doesn’t even go to the doctors who are performing the exams!!! It goes to the higher ups!

Thanks so much for taking the time to write a comment. Regarding the employee experience, I wanted to call out some of the changes we have made in 2018. First, we were able to reduce average medical premiums by 8.9%, which is a win for our employees in the current healthcare market. We also increased our 401(k) company match and will spend over $2 million this year matching money that our team members set aside for retirement. Additionally, as you may be aware, we recently launched a greatly enhanced employee assistance program (EAP). Given the stress and burnout in our industry, we provide a very generous program that is completely free to all of our employees, regardless of whether or not you sign up for MedVet benefits. Also, I want to address some of the comments you made about the employee pet discount. MedVet offers an employee discount policy that is consistently higher than the industry standard. All employees are provided a copy of the policy when hired and given a detailed explanation. Our invoices are billed at the retail rate and then discounted in order to comply with all federal, state, and local IRS guidelines. The employee discount given is shown on each invoice in order to provide clarity and transparency. MedVet does not profit in any way from employee pets. We actually lose money treating employee pets but consider it a great investment in our team - our pets are our family members. Which doesn't seem scummy to me.
