Successful company that does well financially but has cracks in the foundation
Pros
Company continues to aggressively grow. Bonuses paid out quarterly, including a Christmas bonus. Salary range was above average in the job market. Old building had a subsidized cafeteria, on-site fitness center, and coffee station. They don't seem to fire people and have a lot of long tenured people.
Cons
You work in a silo there--have to keep a very narrow focus for your work. There is a moving target when it comes to your bonus/goals, and those changes are not always communicated in a proper manner. Promotion/status appears to be more about who you know, not what you know or have accomplished. A lot of VPs that were promoted obviously were very successful at their previous jobs but do not seem to have the competency/skillset for higher-level roles. The culture is more fear based than allowing new ideas. A lot of "lifers" there but lack of opportunity to advance within. When it was announced that the HQ was moving from Mundelein to Northfield, there was a severe lack of communication and tranparency about when the move would be happening for specific departments--you would never get a straight answer. There is no internal growth/development plan in place, you basically have to wait for a departmental opening and hope that you are considered. The organization did not embrace the ability to work mobile/at home, especially considering some jobs aren't necessary to be in the office all the time. It's a boys club for sure and all about who is the best of friends with the owners' family. When I left my job in 2016, I attempted to apply for a promotion but was completely neglected once my application got to HR. I received an offer from another company for less money and left Medline. I told my boss that they could double my salary and I would still leave--I was that upset that I was left out in the dark about it. Please don't let your employees down--this was worse than telling me that my bonus would be lower than expected.
