Pros

My coworkers are some of the best people I’ve ever met.

Cons

When I started here, I legitimately loved this place and would recommend people to come work here as well. That was years ago. Now I would not recommend it to my worst enemy. This place has completely 180 It’s culture and has changed into being one of the worst places I’ve ever worked. There is no support, management can’t stand constructive feedback, no one listens when employees say they are burnt out. Instead all upper and middle management does is sit in their offices fake smiling and gaslighting employees every day by saying we just aren’t working hard. Branches in particular are suffering. They are constantly sending employees to other branches when staffing is already at critical lows which affects employees and members alike by increasing wait times with no moment to decompress all day for workers to just be glared at and treated badly by our once wonderful membership base because they are being directly targeted to systemically be discouraged from stepping foot in a branch. Somehow management is not understanding that we are all able with communicate to each other when we do visit other branches. Every single branch employee is having the same experience. We are extremely underpaid, under appreciated, and truly feel as though they are trying to chase us out so they don’t have to fund branches anymore. The plot has been lost that there would be no MSUFCU without the branches. The stats don’t lie. Every time a branch is built our membership grows and loyalty increases. It’s because of the EMPLOYEES, not the “brand”. Stop lecturing us about “hospitality”. That’s a stupid buzz word. If you are considering working for MSUFCU-don’t. Unless you are going to be in a VP or CEO position it will require you to burn yourself out into nothing with only criticism and silencing of why you feel that way to begin with. At least half of my branch is currently applying OUTSIDE the CU.

Pros

Fully paid health insurance, PTO

Cons

Horrific work environment, management is unresponsive to anything but positive feedback and continue to increase workloads, cut benefits, threaten to cut them further, they promise opportunities for growth but only a single one of my team mates got a promotion in the 3 years I’ve been here, culture constantly gets worse as leadership makes decisions solely to make more money, continues to buy banks instead of investing anything in employees, blames us for being burnt out and expects us to come up with the solutions to that (which cannot include any changes by management), exodus of senior employees and only entry level positions are available for employees to bid for, eliminated all management development opportunities, eliminated DEI as a pillar of their culture to get approval for a merger and fired people who spoke out. Low pay with no opportunity for a raise over 3%, toxic management, management constantly brags that they’re “the best” and “not like other places” but provide 0 support and railroad unhappy employees out.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We appreciate hearing about your experience, including the aspects you valued, such as health insurance and PTO. We recognize that periods of change can impact the employee experience, and we’re continuing to invest in helping our leaders effectively navigate and communicate through those changes, given how important that is to our teams. But the experience you describe is not what we would want for anyone. To support employee growth and development, we offer several leadership development programs and tuition reimbursement. As of May 2026, our internal fill rate is 45%, reflecting our commitment to internal mobility. We appreciate your perspective and the contributions you made during your time here. Your feedback will be shared with the appropriate teams as part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the employee experience.

Extremely Unsupportive Workplace

Pros

You will meet some great co-workers and friends, they do generally employ good people.

Cons

You will meet wonderful human beings but this company will take advantage of you and their kindness in every single way you can possibly imagine. They do not care about their people, on a simple fundamental level. I went through a very difficult experience here (in short, I was sexually assaulted by a fellow employee at a company event) and they never did a single thing to support me, and instead blamed me for it for a very long time. Years later, I tried to hold them accountable for their part in what happened to me, and instead, they let me go for being “difficult”. Truly, my near 5 year experience at this company was traumatic, and I actively encourage loved ones to not seek MSUFCU out as an employer or lender. I have never trusted a company less. MSUFCU wants you to be a robot, and come in and hit impossible metrics, day in and day out. Have any other experience other than “I love the credit union”, then get out.
