Pros

My co-workers were great, I love every one of them. The teachers are friendly (as long as you don't screw up their schedule) and my manager (before they forced me to transfer) was amazing.

Cons

I have had plenty of bad experiences with upper management, but this one takes the cake. I was transferred from my original location to a store that was much less profitable under an inept manager. I was told (on multiple occasions) that I was the logical next manager of the store, so I held my tongue when this happened. At a crucial time for our store, my manager took a two week vacation (leaving me with EVERYTHING!) and quit as soon as he came back. After busting my balls keeping the store afloat, I was told I was not manager material for my sales goal which I was not physically able to worry about based on the work that fell into my lap. I finally find out that a new employee took the position who had been working significantly less time than I and had just as bad of a sales goal because he was best friends with the prior manager...

Pros

I would totally write some positive points regarding employment at Music & Arts, but I have had a terrible experience and have not seen any pros.

Cons

I was interviewed by the northeast retail district manager for Music & Arts, told that I would be given management position once they acquired a store they were taking over in western CT. I was then told by him I would be given full time hours at their West Hartford location as training until the new store opened. I disclosed to him that I had an arrest and a pending court case. He said that would be no problem with hiring if I wasn't convicted. They ran a background check and 2 weeks later I was called by the West Hartford store manager telling me that my background check cleared. I went in, filled out all of my paperwork, and was put on the schedule for November/December. I worked there shadowing the manager on Friday November 13 and Monday November 16, received a call November 17th from the retail district manager telling me that HR messed up and my employment was put on hold until my court case was resolved. I was upset but accepted it. Then when I called M&A headquarters HR, they told me that I was terminated, but I could re apply 'IF' the position was still available. Then they sent me a letter telling me why they couldn't hire me. They claim that they never hired me, but I am on their payroll. I have contacted the EEOC, CHRO and will file complaints with any other organization I can find. The actions that Music & Arts took have affected my life in a very serious way. I have a Traumatic Brain Injury, suffer from extreme levels of depression, and still have cognitive processing issues. I still cannot believe they would do this to me. They went from telling me my background check cleared to not being able to give me hours until the court case was resolved, to firing me and then telling me that I was never hired.

Pros

Music and Arts has a great environment and very flexible schedules. It's an overall fun job, and you learn great sales techniques.

Cons

Management is a joke. The managers only care about profit, and will run any other employees into the ground in order to get their commission checks. Perhaps it's just my store, but they are perfectly fine with lying to customers and employees in order to make money. We are taught to rush through transactions that don't make the store money and focus on things that will. We are also expected to do things that should be the manager's job, such as training new employees and inputting teacher payroll.
