Pros

Good working environment. The vast majority of people who work here are easy to work with, kind, and sharp. I appreciate the flexibility of remote work.

Cons

The company currently doesn't have a functional HR structure. It's not super clear how to advance in your career. And the overall long terms goals of the company have changed two or three times in the last year I have been here.

Pros

Best reason to work at NYT - it's The Times! Great mission and most everyone working there are smart, have opinions and support the mission to deliver great, truthful content.

Cons

- Everyone has an opinion and wants to put their stamp on a project. This definitely slows down the process. - Top heavy. Many Management Sups and up, leaving not many to do the actual work. - Lack of communication from supervisors down. This varies per manager. - Very matrixed. - Clickey - if you are not in with the "cool kids" then good luck. - Lack of opportunity to advance if you're not working on the "shiny product" of the moment.

Pros

People here are smart and earnest and genuinely care about the future of real unbiased journalism. From the muchraking investigative teams thanklessly digging through data for months to publish groundbreaking news stories to the editors of each section, people seem to feel the weight of the paper’s history and purpose and to respect that.

Cons

Like many big businesses, The Times gets bogged down in its organizational issues. The hierarchy sometimes makes it hard for fresh voices to stand out. Other times, they seem to grasp at what’s trendy, and make inappropriate or less than ideal hires in order to seem more digitally forward and relevant.
