I knew Newsweek would be a bad experience when I signed on, but it's worse than your wildest nightmares. If you're thinking about working here, look into IBT Media and Newsweek's ties to self-admitted white collar criminals, who split the company in half in 2020 — following the CEO's guilty pleas to federal fraud and money laundering charges — and put in Decoy Dev to make it look like the American psychos behind IBT no longer have operational control. This former titan of American news is now just a rodent infected with toxoplasmosis, and it should have died with dignity when the Washington Post bowed out. After hiring me and two other people as fact check reporters, they quickly dissolved the new vertical because conservative bullies complained that they didn't like the negative coverage. Then they made us copy and paste AP stories into the CMS, optimize them for CEO, and change three sentences so it looked like original content to Google. Ultimately, I didn't do much of anything here I could use to market myself in the hard-scrabble journalism industry, but I'm very glad I quit with gusto and moved onto another company that makes me feel rewarded and content. That's saying something considering I edit gruesome stories about murder and child abuse all day.
