Good money. Location (Colchester) was a lovely town....

Cons

Professional experience ignored. Very much of a clique who makes all the decisions. No chances to expand skills. Old technology (15+ years old). No planning (using 'agile' company as an excuse for not planning). Paranoid management - relevant information not shared among engineers, so impossible to really make adequate plans for delivery of projects.

Good pay. Good holidays.

Cons

No professional development. Managers do not listen to engineers around them. Get to use 20 year old technology when there are better tools out there. The managers claim that they want to use experience of engineers with experience in larger organisations (especially as the teams were expanding), but the moment that the suggestions were not work-free (i.e., it did require commitment) the advice was ignored and things went back to usual. And then we had meetings why all projects took too long. Also, time served is valued more than actual ability.

Free coffee (when the machines work). Free fruit once per week. Free parking (when you can find a space!) Relaxed working environment. Fish and chips once a month or quarter.

Cons

Senior management is utterly blind, deaf and dumb to what's actually going on in the factories and teams that generate value for the company. Soulless corporate environment with no culture or promotion of teamwork. Very siloed divisions. no teamwork. Utterly abysmal communication from management. Meaningless performance reviews (do nothing for pay review) Low morale and disillusionment amongst staff. High employee turnover - they do not value growth or personal development.
