Pros

If you come in and work hard you'll be noticed and promoted. Great place to start out your career.

Cons

People with tenure are frequently fired or laid off. No real value is placed on years with the company, which is a shame.

You make a great point about working hard and getting noticed. That was a theme that was evident during our 2016 NAB All Stars Dinner in February. Almost all of the nominations specifically cited the winners for their hard work, dedication to our customers and willingness to go above and beyond. It was also fun to learn that 28% of our winners had more than 5 years of tenure at NAB. I also appreciate your advice and agree that investing in the education and development of our young leaders is important in our path to greatness!

Pros

There are a few people that work here that genuinely care. The HR staff is generally really easy to work with and helpful. The pay is generally at or above industry standard.

Cons

There is zero planning short term or long term throughout the entire organization. Today's first priority is in the trash tomorrow never to be thought of again. Nothing gets finished or funded, but it is hot and critical today. It is mind numbing and frustrating to work with almost the entire leadership team. Everyone has failed up, and no one knows how to truly run their departments or plan. If you asked anyone what is the top priority tomorrow, next week, next month, next year? No one could give you an honest answer. Everyone is out to stab everyone else in the back, and this goes all the way up. If someone could benefit from throwing you under the bus, they will. Make no mistake, trust NO ONE. The benefits, PTO, and holidays are pitifully low compared to other companies in the area. This is simply NOT a good place to work.

Pros

Casual dress code. Occasional department lunches. Great 401k. The department I was in had a mostly great culture and, until my last few months, had virtually no micromanagement. The pace was usually relaxed, and the people in the department were all friendly. The department head also tried to be involved with everyone in order to make communication easier and more transparent.

Cons

Company wildly underpays operations employees (risk, compliance, and underwriting) for the work being done by industry standard. Company offers mediocre to bad benefits (aside from the 401k) Company has a cult-like reverence for the "Speed of Trust" values it preaches, despite not actually following many of those values as a company itself. It's just irritating, meaningless, feel-good Kool-Aid for the employees to choke down. Company offered virtually no raises for anyone in the department in the two years I was there beyond a paltry 1-3% increase based on a problematic merit system. Company moved at a snail's pace for internal shifts in finances and job requisitions. Department head was often too busy to actually hear a lot of feedback about the department. (I love her, but she needs an assistant to help keep things in order) New manager hired in in the months prior to my departure had several micro-managerial policies he tried to implement, and most policies he tried to implement were poorly thought-out and led to more problems than they were designed to solve. Overall: company did not appreciate the talents of its workers enough to recommend anyone work there on a long-term basis. Promotions were sparse to non-existent. All three managers in my department were let go during the two years I was there.

Your feedback regarding your employment experience at NAB is appreciated. During your time with the company, you were witness to rapid growth and with growth comes change along with the need to introduce what are sometimes looked at as more rigid processes or ways of doing business. We understand that change causes frustration and sometimes the original direction may change course due to the needs of the business. Our employees ARE valued and appreciated. We introduced a formal salary structure in 2016 to ensure we are paying fair and equitable wages, implemented a consistent performance review process, conducted employee engagement surveys and held sessions with our employees to listen to their challenges and suggestions. Those are only a few examples of the efforts underway to ensure our employees have the tools and resources to be successful. We are sorry that this wasn’t the right environment for you and wish you the best with your future endeavors.
