      Good Culture - Too Conservative on Compensation

      Pros

      About 1.5 years into this role I got a new managers and that has made all the difference. My new managers are amazing, invested in my career, listen to what I want in the role. Managers all the way up to the department lead have regular meetings with everyone. They are an older company but I think do try to listen to younger voices and have embraced remote work.

      Cons

      At the end of 2020 they did no raises across the board, and overall the company is very conservative when it comes to expenses (aka employee compensation). It is a historically catholic intuition and that still is present in the volunteer opportunities that are highlighted.

      Pros

      If you are a long-time employee (25 plus years), this company will serve you well; for all others, good luck.

      Cons

      A political environment that often drives decisions away from logic. New employees a led to believe they are welcomed, but the politics will eventually wear you down.

      Great Corporate Culture and Excellent Client Service

      Pros

      This is a company that strongly encourages its employees to always put clients first. They sell, but their approach to sales is to educate their clients and prospects as much as possible about their services so that the clients can truly make an informed decision about the services they may want or need.

      Cons

      Salaries and bonuses tend to be a lot lower than those of our competitors, which is unfortunate. Also, while Northern Trust has been making great strides toward adapting and changing with the times, the pace of change can sometimes be painfully slow and the internal decision-making process can be incredibly time-consuming and overly bureaucratic.
