      Pros

      -Start off with 4 weeks of vacation, 2 personal holidays, and almost every Federal holiday off. -My team has had flexible working arrangements, even before COVID. We have the ability to work from home 4 days a week. -The people at Northern are great! It's been great getting to work with people all over the globe.

      Cons

      -Pay is not the best. Northern Trust has been cutting expenses and bonuses over the past few years. -There is not a lot of room for advancement. There is a saying you have to leave Northern to come back to Northern. -There is not always a great work-life balance. Our team is very lean and I often find myself working more than 40 hours a week for below-market pay.

      Opportunity for growth is there if you know the right people

      Cons

      Lack of upper management support. People who are unqualified to manage are elevated to SVP roles. Promotions are based on popularity. You will work hard, devote yourself to your job and the client and it won’t make much of an impact to those in senior roles. What matters is whether you are in line with the ‘right people’ within the bank.
