Former store manager

Pros

expected, yet expensive benefits, good place for learning retail and management. Great starter job, but take the skills you glean elsewhere if you ever want to make anything of yourself.

Cons

After managing for them for over 10 years, and watching the culture shift from customer first to investor first I decided to step down. luckily I am in a place where I can get by fine working part time (with a home business as well). As an employee, experience varies store by store. Different managers will give different experiences, but sometimes you can luck out and learn something.

Worst place to work ever

Pros

Pay is terrible, They claim to be "family oreinted" such a lie. They could care less about their employees. Bad weather hits you will get fired if you cant come in. If your a district or regional manager you have it made. Anybody at store is looked at like a slave basically not a human being

Cons

The only motivation Oreillys gives you is a fear of losing your job. They have outdated technology in the stores and equipment that is old and worthless. But they can sponsor racetracks and races and sporting events... They dont even give annual raises . They blame their turnover rate on store managers when its really just the way the company treats people. They will never stay very long at a job like this

Pros

I worked for them for 3 1/2 years. Started out as a driver/store setup person. Within 2 months I was promoted to RSS (retail service specialist). Then after being promoted within 6 months if that I was promoted to Assistant Manger. I got pay raises accordingly. I loved working for them and I still am a loyal customer as well as telling people about them. The only reason I left was to the fact if moving out of state and getting married. I miss all my customers I had while I was there. But time to time I still see some of them. I would go back in a minute, if the opportunity came around. And we always got our breaks at the location I was at. I learned slot from some of the employees when I first started. And then I had a great manager than came on after I started could have not asked for a better manager than I had. When he came on I learned slot from him.

Cons

Sometimes the hours when employees called off and you had to cover and at times when we really could not help the customer do to not caring their part at that moment and they could not wait for it to come in especially for special orders
