Pros

I am an employee who left OCLC for a couple of years and then came back. I realized what a great place it was to work. As an Engineer, I get to work with the latest and greatest technology. I have a say in our strategic initiatives and work very closely with the tech and product teams here. There is career progression within technology....both upward and laterally. There are a ton of opportunities to move around within the Global Technology division if you are smart and motivated to do so. HR, Legal and Finance are housed within the corporate headquarters and are great partners to work with. I have never worked with such great teams of smart and talented folks who are subject matter experts...within technology, product and Human Resources. Work life balance is huge. Benefits are very hard to beat...especially the retirement plan that kicks in after 2 years of service!

Cons

I cannot think of anything! It is a great place to work!

Pros

OCLC is going through some changes and faces strategic long term challenges. New management is trying to find it's way through, somewhat imperfectly. Having said that, it is still a really good place to work if you shuffle 1's and 0's around for a living. The work's not so hard that you don't have time to read up on new technologies, so if you are disciplined you can keep current. This is a place for the technologist who wants to invest in learning about Library Science and is playing the long ball. If you are a rock star then please, go consult and spare us the "new framework of the week".

Cons

Right now the organization is in flux. If you can't deal with changing priorities and management uncertainty without developing a Malox dependency, then maybe there is a better position for you with state government or a bank. But if you are curious, willing to invest time in learning library science and can approach managerial thrashing with bemused detachment then I recommend working here. I know I enjoy it. And if they do right the ship, it will be all the better a few years from now. If they don't, there are plenty of IT jobs in Central Ohio believe me.

Pros

The actual staff is good. Decent benefits

Cons

Lower end of salaries. Too many managers managing too few people. The number of managers is ridiculous for a company this small. Controlling environment Quire behind on technology side. Every technology finds it way to OCLC YEARS after its been in the industry.
