Pros

- Nice health care plan, no premiums and decent company HSA contributions - Great downtown location if you can deal with the parking

Cons

OnShift was an amazing place a few years ago. It was a fun place to work filled with passionate people. Since then, OnShift released multiple rushed products that led to significant tech debt and a very chaotic work environment. The answer seemingly was to lay off half their IT staff and pivot to a new tech stack. These days the passion doesn’t exist and it’s easy to see why. The people who built the software and made OnShift what it was were shut out by a few outside leadership hires. Major decisions were made without consulting the very people who cared and poured all their energy into making the product what it was. If you decided to respectfully voice your dissent, you were quickly excluded from anything of importance. All of this went on, among many other things, under the original leadership who claimed to put employees first. They completely checked out of the engaging and caring attitude that was there when I started. Among other cons: - No 401k matching - little to no career growth or progression opportunities - small tables for desk with no privacy and little space

Untrusting and unprofessional work environment

Pros

None that I can think of but if pressed, I think the 'worker bees' are pretty talented if used to their potential

Cons

Total bait and switch what they sold me on in the interview versus reality in the organization. Complete lack of company vision. Communication, competency and transparency from the top down is critically poor. Very unprofessional the way non managers are treated. They say they want independent thinkers and innovators but in reality need order takers. My best advice is to keep looking in your job search. There are far better places to be valued and grow your career.

Pros

WFH once a week (but only Tues-Thurs), free health insurance (though not likely to last much longer), stake in the company (though likely to be extremely diluted), great co-workers, high-growth potential, generous holiday party and company picnic, location is great.

Cons

I loved working at OnShift and I loved the product I was working on, but then the rug was swept out from under my feet. After the CEO promised that he would take care of us, he went back on his word in the worst way and shockingly fired his best people. They framed the meeting as a strategy meeting and even told us to bring a pen and paper because it'd be "interactive." Why the bait and switch? At least let us retain some of our dignity. It was extremely disrespectful of all that we'd done for the company to lay us off the way that they did. Don't be fooled by the most recent positive reviews. This is management asking people to leave them, or management leaving the reviews themselves. I have many friends in various departments at the company and every time I talk to them they tell me what a disaster it is there. Since the layoff, 11 more engineers have quit. ELEVEN, of the ~25 that were left. The Chief "Architect" and other dev managers are burning the place to the ground. What used to be a colorful, fun environment is now a sterile, cookie-cutter office space.
