Decent resume builder, weak pay

Pros

-company culture -can get promoted easily if you work hard and get noticed, looks good on resume to be promoted in a short amount of time

Cons

-pay is definitely below market value. -Sales gets overpaid and everyone else has to deal with their mess. After the tax associates make the sale for the first resolution payment, they no longer have no obligation to help the client. They sell the clients on a huge reduction and false hopes and in return that is not the outcome for 80-90% of our clients. They then are upset and are unable to pay their high fees and case managers, customer service, tax preparers have to deal with these irate customers because they are led to believe one thing and are presented something else. -some higher uppers or management are inadequate and only there due to seniority. they are not fit to lead.

Attorneys are Treated Like Salesmen

Pros

Some good people in the staff

Cons

You will be placed in a niche position- like you only do RO cases, or only audits, or only OICs, or only setting up payment plans and currently-non-collectibles. They don't allow you to learn other types of tasks even if you want to, so you get professionally stunted. The management changed, so that former sales team are now in charge of the servicing side. They treat EAs and Attorneys like salesmen. It's all about "hitting the numbers" and closing a set amount of cases per month, which goes up. They don't care about quality work, just that you "close" more cases. If you don't close enough you get written warnings, even though the timing of cases settling is often out of your control. Also your base salary will not go up, you only get raises via commission for closed cases, which doesn't amount to a lot. If you do the payment plans and CNCs, you only get commission on the payment plans even though setting up CNCs is harder. Due to so much expansion, the company just recently opened up a nice brand new office...but only for its sales team. All the EAs and Attorneys are still stuck in the old office. That just shows you where the priority and attention is.

Optima Tax Relief Response
9y
Dear "Former Employee", We are very sorry you had a negative experience with our firm. I will try to address the points that you mention to provide additional color to you and others who may consider our great company for employment. "Management Changed" - We have had the same senior management group since inception so I am not quite sure how to respond. Furthermore, we have recently promoted some of our Attorneys to a more prominent role within the management team and we are happy to report that they are doing great. "Treated Like Salesmen" - With all due respect, we treat everyone employed by the firm the same, regardless of title. I am not sure if being treated as a "Salesman" is a negative or positive thing as you mention that our "Salesmen" are treated better than the Attorneys later in your post. You are absolutely right that we set a high-standard for all of our employees as our clients expect the best when they hire OTR for help with their tax matter. Our predecessors in this space are all out of business because the accepted mediocrity and did not invest in enough servicing staff to service their clients. I am very proud to say that we have hired over 50 licensed Attorney's, Enrolled Agents, or CPA's. Even better, we have paid for and developed over 10 ourselves through investment in staff that had the desire to take the next step in their careers. More recently, we started the Optima Tax School to allow more of our employees a free course in Tax Preparation and I am proud to say that we graduated 12 new Tax Preparers through this initiative. I am extremely proud to say that we have only had 1 employee out of those 60 Attorney's that we have hired resign from their position. This employee did so on good terms as they had to relocate for family reason. If you are a "former employee", then I apologize if the standard was set too high for you and I can only assume that you were let go due to your performance. "Quality vs Quantity" - We have a Quality Review for every client that graduates from the program to ensure that the case has met our standard. If not, we kick back a case to the Pro Team to rework the case until it meets our stringent qualifications. To be transparent, our hiring managers look for "Quality and Quantity" as our clients deserve the "Best Possible Result" in the shortest amount of time when dealing with a stressful Tax Collection Case. Ultimately, it is our clients that are the most critical judges on quality, and we are performing at record client satisfaction levels based on client feedback and independent third party consumer rating agencies. As far as internal incentives, we have monthly "Quality" awards voted on by stakeholders for our Tax Pro's and Tax Prep employees that deliver quality casework. In addition, we solicit feedback from our clients under our "Five Star Service" initiative to direct positive feedback to our great employees who go above and beyond to deliver quality every day. In conclusion, we thank you for your time with our company and feedback that you have provided for the team. We pride ourselves in turning negatives into positives and we will continue to listen to our current, and former employees to make changes that contribute to our overall mission. I sincerely apologize that your experience with our company did not meet your expectations and I hope that you have found a better match for your career. If you would like to take the "anonymous" tag off and discuss with me personally I would love to sit with you to go over our some of these items in more detail. Best Regards, David King CEO - Optima Tax Relief

UNETHICAL, STRESS RIDDEN + FAVORITISM

Business Outlook

Pros

Hybrid work schedule and comfortability of having a paycheck

Cons

Management cannot take constructive criticism, there is little to no training for most positions. Optima has had 5 different rounds of large layoffs and each time let go of tenured employees who helped build the business from the ground up to replace them with lower paid workers. They have also began outsourcing employees to Mexico and the Philippines in effort to cut costs. For a US Tax firm that seems a bit unethical to me. They try to pride themselves on “good business practices” when they have been the most shady from the start with misleading employees and clients alike.
