Pros

The best reason to work for PNC is the name recognition.

Cons

Size and specialization. It is very difficult, if not impossible to expand your depth of knowledge. I asked for support to attain my CFA designation and was told that "This is not within the scope of your current position." It is not easy to develop yourself professionally. I did not work with a single person who was satisfied with management in our particular division. In fact, I was the 10th person to leave my department in the 18 months that I was there. From speaking with other PNC employees in other departments as well as my own observations, PNC relies on high turnover from young, replaceable employees. If you're interested in a mediocre job with a safe mediocre paycheck, PNC is your place to be. However, if you have any ambition, and strive for a career, go somewhere else.

Pros

There really are no good reasons to work here

Cons

Don't expect to ever get praised or recognized for any work you do. They motivate by constantly critizising you. Horrible pay for the amount of work you do. Lack of leadership. No more banking hours. Expect late nights telemarketing from your office and weekends with no backup help.

Pros

Especially in today's times with the volatile markets-- and financial services industry, it is nice to work at one of the stronger organizations. Additionally, since PNC is growing in many desirable markets, there is the opportunity to move within the company to other locations.

Cons

This is probably a downside of all large banks (or other large companies), but PNC can be a difficult place to navigate when you need to get things done. I also don't think that the recognition and promotion process is as merit based as I think it should be.
