Loved the company until they laid us all off.

Pros

PL values it's employees and really cares about them. Great benefits and exceptional pay. Excellent opportunities to move up and various divisions to move in to for expanded experience without having to leave the firm. Great employees.

Cons

Laid off almost all of the division. New CEO did not like the variable annuity division and was determined to exit the business.

Pros

Pacific Life overall is a good company with a good product.

Cons

Certain people in management should not have ever been hired in the first place. Even after those higher up recognized this, some were too caught up in the corporate game to correct hiring mistakes.

Pros

The time off is really nice when one needs it. Not all divisional managers are as good as some. My manager pretty much gives me the vacation time for the requested dates. I always make requests early. I really like some of the other Engineers I work with.

Cons

The biggest problem I see at Pacific Life is the relationshps between the divisions. There is not one. The old saying " Promoted to the highest level of incompetency" hits the nail on the head in respect to managment here. Many employees are terrified to do thier jobs any more because no matter what someone is going to complain. You are not allowed to think beyond "The Process" or you find your self being repremanded. My manager asked me to help another division once so I did. Then that divisions managment complained that I helped them and I was repremanded for doing exactly what I was told. People are scared to death here. Especially with the unemployment rate and a failing economy.
