Pros

Pearson is a forerunner in the education industry and that can be exciting, particularly from a digital standpoint. They also offer comprehensive competitive benefits and are open to flexible work hours as well as telecommuting (although there is no reimbursement for internet or phone). Employee wellness is encouraged with on-site programs like Weight Watchers.

Cons

Pearson refuses to pay people their worth and seems to have adopted a "be thankful you have a job" philosophy. Reorganizations have been occurring annually for at least the last 5 years, with sometimes more than one in a year. For a company who's mission is "Brave, Imaginative, and Decent", they have been anything but that in recent years.

Pros

Flexible, part time hours, great coworkers. Often great customers. Able to make a difference in people's lives with compassion and humor to soothe their nerves and bolster their courage.

Cons

No lunch breaks. No lunch room, microwaves, coffee makers, hot plates, vending allowed. Some centers have proctor desks electronically monitored and recorded. Constant change to rules, processes. Lots of turnover. Previous employee recognition award system in "revamp" mode and essentially defunct. Cheap, cheap, cheap raises for the work done..this is a "professional" testing environment but essentially it is retail service and anyone who has worked in that industry knows how taxing it can be. There is little acknowledgement for the sheer effort it can be to smile at a difficult customer calling you every name in the book for asking him to adhere to the client's rules, and if there is no manager working the shift your only option is to call someone about the situation. Additionally raises are across the board so new hires start far at higher wages than tenured, experienced employees. Managers paid slightly above workers and expected to process reports either during infrequent down time at work or at home off the clock.

Pros

It was good while it lasted.

Cons

Pearson is going through another corporate reorg, this time however, it's global. The London office has made it clear that they are making all the decisions from here on out unwilling to hear opposing opinions especially when they come from US workers. I've never seen so many talented engineers run for the hills. Sad.
