Pros

Health vision and dental insurance are okay and coverage starts right away, the original management was phenomenal, but the people they replaced them with were not good to their employees.

Cons

the management and HR are TERRIBLE. They try to take advantage of their employees to penny pinch. I was very happy here until the management shift. They tried to convince an employee to take unpaid leave when they qualified for short term disability. They treat people with disabilities terribly- as if they’re completely disposable. Little to no diversity and definitely no inclusion. Mostly white males- with white women as their admin. Inappropriate jokes- I would never work for them again.

We are disappointed to read of this poster’s experience. At Penn Mutual, we expect all of our people managers to fulfill their responsibilities and that includes accurate implementation of all benefits. As a proud, long-term Penn Mutual employee, I would like to assure you that we are committed to advancing equity in all its forms. Our culture is based on doing what right today, together, for the promise of brighter tomorrow. We bring that shared commitment to life every day with care, respect and belonging. I would also like to mention that our employees have been working from home for the last 18 months to ensure they weather the pandemic safely. And we continue to allow employee-choice driven flexibility options so that our employees can make the decisions that best suits their needs. I would appreciate hearing more about your experience since it does not align with the expectations mentioned above. Please reach out to me at williams.amy@pennmutual.com.

Pros

Makes corporate goals and pays 100%+ on annual bonus. Nice associates who care. COO is a good person. Good insurance products. Good Actuary department.

Cons

CIO too involved with day-to-day decision making and doesn't let leaders lead. VPs only do what their superiors want even if not best for company. VPs end up protecting themselves and let subordinates fail to save themselves. Too many "yes" people. They manage through fear. CIO believes he is only innovative person in the building and passively belittles associates. Hear everyday from others to just do what the CIO wants else you will be worked out. If you want to get ahead make sure you get to know the COO (because he values people) else it doesn't matter how hard you work because your leader won't promote your value.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that your experience at Penn Mutual differs from the culture we each work diligently to maintain. At Penn Mutual we respect one another. We pride ourselves on being a values driven organization. All associates are encouraged to share their thoughts in an honest and open dialogue, without repercussion. Empowerment of our associates is one of the keys to our success and longevity. To ensure this, we have a robust ethics program that reinforces our values and provides numerous mechanisms for reporting concerns. We encourage you to employ any of the resources available if you wish to advise us of a concern. Occasionally, our leaders need to make necessary changes in personnel to advance our business. While it is never easy to make such changes, at times business conditions require it. These decisions are handled with dignity and respect, and affected associates are offered financial assistance when transitioning out of the company. Our company’s culture of collaboration has allowed us to drive innovation and become a leader in our industry. We hope your perception changes as your association with us continues. If there is anything I can do to assist you, please don’t hesitate to call me.

Neglectful of Hardworking Employees; Temps Beware

Pros

Recently renovated interior, very open floors, no crowding. Business always growing, financially sound.

Cons

Absolutely no room for growth, development is looked at as trying to leave a department, which causes management to become very insecure. Managers will hold you back you from another position if they need you in their's. Lies to temporary employees with the promise of a temporary to permanent position, but keeps them on for years to keep from providing benefits or higher pay for the same job with the same requirements of permanent employees. Senior management is constantly changing, no consistency which leads to failure for all employees. Very selfish, unapproachable, petty management that are very difficult to trust or feel comfortable with. Customer Service Department is an absolute mess, turnover is very high. Unlivable wage raises each year, generally 1% which does not keep up with the cost of health insurance increases. Astronomically priced, high deductible healthcare that will put a huge dent in your paycheck and has no benefit.

Thank you for your review. At Penn Mutual we encourage input from all of our associates to ensure that we maintain our transparent and collaborative culture. We have many avenues for associates to discuss concerns if they choose not to reach out to their immediate leadership. At Penn Mutual we take pride in the number of open positions which are filled by internal candidates. Of the more than 85 open positions filled in 2016, 25% were filled by internal candidates. We believe this internal mobility supports our associates’ growth and development and strengthens us as a company. Penn Mutual, like most employers, continues to navigate the challenges involved in providing comprehensive healthcare coverage to our associates, and we work hard to remain competitive in this area. Again, thank you for the feedback as our culture is important to us and believe it is what sets us apart.
