Pros

The health insurance is probably the only benefit.

Cons

So I started here less than a month ago. Upon going to orientation i discovered it to be a mess after the second day. Day three I was doing some training but there was confusion about where I was actually to go for that training. “You’ll be going here tomorrow, actually no, you’re going to be going there” back and forth. Then after that first week, having to go to camp hill for training. Upon arriving at camp hill for training and able to locate the correct location the first day was fine. The second day, I was informed “you shouldn’t be at this training, or the training tomorrow”. My manager told me it was the correct training and they’d fix that (so confusion there as well). The scheduler position itself is at their call center which is fine. You’re taking calls for several offices though, and there is a chance you’re going to be using at least 3 different software programs to locate people. Plus the others to look at peoples charts (I was told I wouldn’t need the one program so I received little training during orientation). Only to find out we do indeed use that. Also for schedulers there is a lot of insurance involvement. Getting people to give you their insurance information over the phone to get it in the system then when they arrive at the visit at whatever doctor at, they’d scan it. The training for insurance I received a shorter version ( 4 half days) whereas others received full days for longer. So unfortunately with how orientation went and the training went, I decided to end my employment less than a month after starting which is extremely disappointing. I was going to wait for 6 months and transfer but I have a feeling I’d be miserable. Also for the location I was at, they use teams. You put in the office group chat when you’re going on your scheduled 15 min breaks (two a day) and your scheduled lunch. You also use it to tell literally everyone you’re going to the bathroom or “brb” if you don’t want to directly say you’re going to the bathroom. Maybe someone looking for a job finds that little bit of info important. This was literally the worst employment experience I’ve ever. Literally. I’ll never consider penn state health for employment again. Also, they don’t list the pay on the job listings. And when you go for an interview, they also don’t know the salary, they give you a range. The recruiter will tell you what the salary is when and if they offer you a position. So there is a high chance you’ll literally waste your time for an interview just to get offered a salary below your expectations.

Pros

Had very visible hospital president who worked to make our lives better and really listened.

Cons

Executive leadership at Crystal A (leadership offices) are badly out of touch, political, and not up for competing with UPMC or UPenn. Leadership otherwise are temporary with the exception of CEO, who is an accountant with little front line operational experience or expertise -- and no academic interests./experience. New U President who appears hands-off.
