Pros

If you love animals, you will get your animal fix everyday at PetSmart. The company tries hard to make it a somewhat fun place to work and most of the customers (pet parents) are pleasant to deal with.

Cons

It is still retail and the retail industry has struggled over the last 18 months, as a result staffing levels have been reduced in a business that carries live goods. Every one is asked to do more (economy issues), but the work expectations coupled with the customer service expectations are unrealistic with the amount of staff that is allowed. Always changing policies and rules make it hard to remember from day to day which form to use, how to sign (first name last initial), where to sign, and when to sign.

Pros

Excellent discount and full time employees receive excellent benefits that get better as you work for the company longer

Cons

Depending on where you work, and who your supervisors are will make all the difference. The DM is too far spread out to focus on each store individually, allowing some store managers (or assistant managers) too much freedom and power. By the same token, not all of the DM's are even helpful and in many instances you'll be dissatisfied with the changes in the store by either DM or corporate. If your part time, don't expect a regular paycheck, your hours will fluctuate wildy and if you want more then a few hours, you'll have to have nearly completely open availability, even as a part-timer

Pros

semi-laid back atmosphere, able to be exposed to a variety animals daily. a very good way for a pet owner to gain more knowledge and pet care skills. discount is minimal but still helps.

Cons

because of management being laid back... you might not ever hear of store goals, available promotions, or any other company news with out googling it. if not a pet person i don't think this is proper job for anyone who does't like being around animals. even with so many "safety standards" it is very appalling the treatment and procedures for dealing with and handling animals.
