Pros

The animals make it worth it. Ninety five percent of the people I work with are great. (Need four more words.)

Cons

Walk in nail trims are the worst. It completely sets you back. Hours start as early as 6:45 and sometimes you wait until 3pm to go to work. It's disgusting the company is so greedy as to open the salon 2 hours before the store opens. Management that schedules you to close at 9 or 10 pm and then open the next day. I'm sorry- there's NEVER an excuse to do this. You have enough people to work with. What kind of service do you think the customers or their dogs are getting by someone that got maybe 5 hours of sleep? Our salon manager is very competent, but instead of making it an agreeable place to work rules by fear. The salon I work in as a whole has a very negative vibe to it. The company does not care if a dog comes in emaciated. They will not turn the owner into the proper authorities b/c they say the owner is making an attempt to better the dog. ( how about some food!) And I'm not talking about dogs someone just adopted. In this economy we are having to rebook clients. People resent this. It loses the groomers $ b/c alot of rebooks cancel last minute or do not show up. Even if they have been called. When they want to get rid of someone they write them up as much as possible. Sometimes completely bogus stuff.

Pros

Good variety in the animals that come in the store, management can be supportive of staff, relaxed atmosphere, flexible scheduling receptive to request for days off.

Cons

Management support support is inconsistent, Corporate side of affairs has unrealistic goals for the employees (the training is sub par for the environment), pay is low, benefits are rather mundane and available only for full time (which most of the staff is not), under staffed for weekend customer volume, corporate does not invest enough employees resulting in high turn over, can run into ethical delimmas with customers over care of animals

Pros

You become attached to your own little family here. Great customer relationships too.

Cons

Horrible pay, so much responsibilities. Started as a stocker(8.65) and barley got a raise as a manager(9.54). Expect too much!
