Pros

At least i have made the attempt to educate not only my clients but also my associates, not only in the ways of grooming and handeling, but also to really put the dog first!

Cons

If a dog really needs to be stripped down, they wont let me do it for fear of the dog being injured, if a dog wont stand perfectly on my table, i am not supposed to groom the dog! Regardless of why, whether its a first groom, a puppy, a 3 legged dog, old dog, it doesnt matter! Nothing will they let me do to help an animal that is really in need of my skills! Cant do pregnant ones, no maternity cuts!? Too many policies and procedures that are based on lawsuits, not on what right for the animal! They want us pushing services and add-ons onto our clients even if we know they cant afford it! If our percentages dont stay where petco thinks they should be, we are fired. Also getting a certificate from petco for going thru the groomer training program means nothing to any other grooming shop! Find a mentor, someone in a private salon willing to teach you! It really is the best way!

Pros

The pay is good. No overtime is allowed so you do have a life somewhat.

Cons

Training is a joke. Thrown onto floor and expected to get your tasks completed while helping customer. Understaffed.

Pros

Its a pay check every two weeks

Cons

Petco puts out advertisement for grooming coupons at the groomers expense. When a $5.00 off coupon is used for grooming Petco only pays half of the coupon the other half comes out of the groomer pay. The money that is being deducted from the groomer is not on your pay stub but on a daily report that we recieve in the salon. Because the groomer is paying for 1/2 of the coupon advertisement then we are entitle to claim the advertising on our taxes. Us groomers have no control over advertising nor the coupons that are being deducted from us. My salon manager had a client that used 3 $5.00 off coupons all in one day, thats $7.50 deducted from her wages. The deduction of coupons adds up and can affect you making your commensation for that day or week. When you complain to management, they say its legal for them to deduct the coupons from our pay but it is also legal for us to claim 1/2 of the advertising on our taxes since its being deducted from our pay. I am not the only person that has complained about petco taking from the groomers.
