From a top company to work for, to the bottom of the barrel
Pros
Customers are typically pet lovers which is nice. 20% discounts. Work with animal rescues. Sometimes you can get a good manager that makes you want to change the world.
Cons
Hypocrisy in upper management. They preach communication and treating your employees like they are valued, yet do not value the store teams. And HR is so horrible at effective communication that it’s almost laughable. The open door policy is a complete joke since whatever you say gets passed directly to the manager you are complaining about, which results in retaliation that is supported by corporate. HR has a bad habit of belittling issues and then gossiping about it to the rest of the upper management, which eventually reaches everyone else. Regional mgr and HR work hand in hand and will stab you in the back. Beware of them being friendly to your face while planning for you to leave the company either voluntarily or otherwise. If you upset HR, then your work life will be made miserable for that reason alone, enough to make you quit. They feel that if you quit, then you won’t file for unemployment or bring a lawsuit. HR is very afraid of POC and will take extra steps to make sure the termination paperwork is solid because they assume POC will file for unemployment or try to sue for discrimination, but don’t pay nearly as much attention to others. Fact. Led by people who are not comfortable with POC or LGBT. Progressive discipline is in place for people that do not fit either of those, but immediate termination is possible for those that do. This used to be a wonderful company to work for that valued the employee and made you want to work even for lesser wages. Now it’s all about the extra pennies on the bottom line at the cost of employee morale, not to mention the obvious discrimination. It’s just not worth it anymore.
