Pros

The job can be laid-back at times when you're ahead on work and my current set of coworkers are awesome.

Cons

Your work load as well as the work that you normally do as a keyholder requires a lot more responsibility and time management than that of a sales associate/cashier position. As well, some associates will use their seniority to push work off on other employees as they feel they're invulnerable to criticism. There's really no way to speak to management about changing or improving anything in the store. Many are unwilling to accept any constructive criticism. A good portion of the groomer clients are absolute psychos. I've had several who would berate me over the phone and then would call back another time, refusing to give their name but wanting to 'get someone elses dog groomed' because they know they're banned from the store. The groomers are unfortunately not able to do or say much in the way of rude and aggressive clients beyond putting them on the Do Not Groom list - and previous management has forced them to deal with clients that were hostile because the manager was familiar with the clients or felt indebted to them.

Associate/keyholder

Pros

It's a job and it's not very hard to get hired. As long as your not a minor or have a felony, they will hire you because of a high turnover rate. Just show up for the interview and you got it. Discount I guess? 20% off. And want to be a keyholder for an extra dollar? You got it because they have no standards about that position either.

Cons

Full time is myth and you won't get more than 30 hrs a week because they don't want to pay for benefits. No upward movement and hard workers aren't valued. They don't care as long as you show up. Raises and training are none existent. Got a genuine complaint? Out of luck because they don't care. They really just don't care about anything else besides there money. There are a few decent stores but most are like this. Store management is usually unprofessional towards their employees and customers. I've seen loyal customers be lost due to this behavior. HR is nonexistent and their "open door" policy is worthless. If there is a complaint about store management, it's not taken seriously and the fear of retribution is real because there is a lack of privacy.

Grooming salary and managment

Pros

You get to work with some really awesome dogs. Had fun working with my co-workers for the most part. HR is very nice. They don't know what goes on at the store when they aren't there or a bunch of employees would have been fired, including the manager.

Cons

Poor Store Management! Hi turnover rate. Do not expect to make much commission. They will tell you that you can make 50% on all grooms, lies you have to make double your weekly salary before you even start to make up to 30 or 50% depending on what type of groom it is. A lot of drama and lack of maturity.

Hey there! I am sorry if our compensation structure was confusing, but it is pretty straightforward. Petsense pays all groomers a guaranteed base wage, usually $9 per hour. This is to protect you in the case of a slow week, bad weather, etc. If you are scheduled for 40 hours and work all 40 hours, would would make $360 that week, even if a single dog doesn't come through the door to get groomed. This is rarely ever the case (usually only if a town has really bad weather) and most of our groomers average between $15 and $25 per hour with commissions. In regards to commissions, our groomers make 50% on grooms (with potential to earn 55%) and 30% on baths, but only if their weekly earning out pace their hourly base wage. It is a pretty normal salary structure. We've never been more satisfied with our store progress in your former location. We wish we would have zero percent turnover in all stores, but sometimes change is good so that we can make sure we are always delivering the best service to our customers.
