Pros

The experience was awesome. Working with animals is everyone’s childhood dream at one point right?

Cons

A healthy work\life balance is never going to be achieved here if they don’t realize they’re driving all their best employees away with low wages and even lower respect for the people that make the place run.

Pros

-genuinely good people work here, everyone is there to raise money for animals -something new everyday with all the venues to work -during the busy season its very fast paced, plenty of hours (only during those few months) -lots of other opportunity to work/volunteer in other departments allowing you to possibly move up

Cons

-tons of drama among the staff -not a lot of room to move up, a ton of people with biology and zoology degrees stuck doing basic cashier work -VERY seasonal, during the slow season you'll barley scrap by on 22 hours a week -because of the constant flow of new people every season training is crap, the new people that barley know things get to train the even newer people -some staff might die at the zoo before they quit, that staff are very much locked into there old ways -even Keepers have it rough only 12$ an hour and a super strict schedule to work and little to no room to breathe -most people wanting to be an animal keeper you'll have to wait in line, first you need to apply to be a volunteer get 100 hours or more of time there then wait till a position opens up then apply and hope the drama and politics don't get the better of you

Pros

Very fulfilling to be around animals all day and share in guests' excitement, access to behind-the-scenes and inside knowledge of the zoo, tight-knit community of employees, supportive supervisors, unique experiences that you can't get from any other job.

Cons

Low pay, no opportunity for advancement, high level of competition for job openings.
